We all know the feeling of waiting. Whether it’s waiting to hear back after a job interview or waiting to get a promotion or, waiting for a difficult or bad situation in our lives to resolve. Can you feel the frustration, anxiety and anger?
Then, there’s waiting to finally achieve your dreams. We work so hard towards doing the thing we love the most. Yet, something always seems to come in the way. How could this be? If we do what we love, shouldn’t it be easy to achieve? Why does it take so long?
We’ve probably all heard the saying, “We make plans and God laughs at our plans.”
At first, I thought, “What??? Why would anyone believe that God is just waiting to laugh at us, especially when we set out to do something with good intentions?”
After spending a few days with a Colombian couple, I gained a better understanding of this statement.
One morning, we sat together at breakfast. Before eating, they held hands and asked me if I would like to join them in a moment of prayer for gratitude and guidance. I held hands with them and listened to the most beautiful words being spoken by the man.
“Thank you for this moment, for it is like no other moment we have experienced. Thank you for the blessing of this special food in front of us and for taking care of nature in providing us with this food. Thank you for bringing us to experience the beauty surrounding this finca, it is nothing like anything we’ve seen before. Thank you for the warm company of Antonia among us, for through her we have learned a little more about Canada.
With this food, let it nourish us, give us strength that we follow your path today. Give us guidance to learn and grow, that we may carry out your plans to touch someone and keep building towards developing our country. That we may be patient in the wait and not get discouraged and lose interest in the commitment it takes for us to see our country develop. That we continue to keep you present in our hearts as a community and not fall astray to your purpose for short term gains and successes.”
I felt like I had just been granted a very special opportunity to experience gaining a deeper knowledge and understanding of ‘life’s injustices’ when we are made to wait. I want to share it with you.
Basically, Waiting is a beautiful part of life meant to develop, transform and awaken our true nature!
Having this couple share the suffering and difficulties that Colombians endured and are still living today, I discovered three great reasons why waiting is a part of our journey to achieving any goal right through to finding your life’s purpose!
Over the next couple of weeks, I will share a series of three posts each one focusing on a powerful tool for personal growth and transformation. Tools that are present in the greatest gift of grace that is given to us on our life’s journey: The Wait!
The full series are:
Note: I have created these series using this couple’s story of Colombia as an example. A very special thank you to Jaime and Lina. They agreed to have me share their personal views, experiences and lessons learned to illustrate the Greatness we can achieve through these three reasons as to why we are made to wait.
I hope it will be of some inspiration to you to embrace and learn through life’s trials.
